Best 2 Solutions for Plex Media Server to recognize MP4 video files

August 11, 2016

Have problems when playing MP4 files via Plex? This article offers you the solution to enable Plex to read all types of MP4 files easily.

Source From: Convert MP4 to Plex more compatible format

Q: I just installed Plex for the first time and I was able to add my (external drive) that has all my music on it... very cool. But when I add my movies (videos) converted from DVD's to MP4 files and none on them are recognized by Plex. Does anyone have any suggestions as to why I am unable to add .MP4 files to a library?

As you see, some guys would meet issues when adding and playing MP4 movie in Plex. Based on testing and our users’ feedback, we outlines the possible solutions for you to solve the MP4 to Plex issues quickly.

Solution 1: Naming your MP4 movie file and put in a correct folder

Well it seem that Plex MUST have its content files in Folders. Plex will NOT recognize media files in the root of a drive.

Stand-Alone Video Files

Movie media files can be contained in one or more folders. The structure isn't important unless you have custom media (e.g. posters) for a particular movie. To correctly name a movie file, name it as follows: MovieName (release year).ext

Folder Nesting

Movie files can be placed into individual folders if you want, but it's not mandatory in most cases. If you have external media for a movie (e.g. custom poster, external subtitles etc.) you should usually place the movie in a nested folder along with the custom media files. Name the folder the same as the movie file: /Movies/MovieName (release year)/MovieName (release year).ext

If it still can’t help you playback MP4 via Plex, it may due to file format issue. Try the solution 2.

Trouble Shooting iMovie - How to Fix iMovie When It Freezes

July 28, 2016

A software program crashing is not a new thing that you will deal with. From time immemorial, such programs go down tumbling for many reasons and iMovie is not an exception.

Part 1. Why iMovie keeps crashing

You should not assume that iMovie crashes down just because it decides to do that. There must be a reason behind that as will be discussed in this part. Compile-time error is one of the key causes of crashes not only in iMovie but in several other software programs. It is fundamentally a composition error. This largely deals with mistakes arising from grammatical and spelling errors which iMovie can detect quickly that something is wrong. Immediately that is detected, iMovie will communicate to the programmer that there is something strange going on leading to a crash.

A computer program like iMovie cannot understand coded language but it has to be translated. If that fails then there will be no option but a crash. If the complier of iMovie is able to translate a code, you will not receive any error notification and the problem will be solved. All in all, iMovie crashing arises from failure by the programmer to compile codes to a language that iMovie will understand easily. Run-time error is the second major cause of crashes in iMovie and this comes out of strictness in adhering to given instructions. Have you ever heard of punishment for sticking to what is right? That is what this error tends to do to users of iMovie.

Fears of your iMovie crashing should not fool you into bending the procedures because there are consequences for that as well. It does not mean that run-time errors occur every time you adhere to given instructions. It is simply an explanation that in case the error occurs and your iMovie crashes then it has to be traced to that. It might occur once in a year so don't be too worried but taking precaution is necessary. Naturally, the iMovie cannot think personally but it will act on the instructions given. In that context, feeding it with right instructions is the best thing to do regardless of the impending dangers of the iMovie crashing.

Thirdly, there are the silent errors which are very noisy in causing an iMovie crashing. This is a total defiance on the part of iMovie since it will remain operational even with mistakes having been detected. You will notice the iMovie skipping any detected errors and proceeding to the succeeding step without considering the impending consequences. Such sustained defiance will definitely cause the iMovie to crash down within no time. It is usually a huge oversight when the iMovie fails to detect that certain errors have occurred and you will be the biggest loser as the owner of stored files. Expect your iMovie to crash if there are any irregularities touching on programming.

That is another of the causes for iMovie crashing that you must know about. You might ignore some of the errors when programming but a crash will nail the point home that actually there was a problem you ignored. In this, you will be directly responsible if the iMovie crashes because of programming related issues. It is not strange that programming problems occur when using iMovie. This is a complicated process and human beings are always prone to making mistakes even though it should not be an excuse for you to error. Away from what many people have been assuming, iMovie only crashes down when it is provoked. There must be a tangible reason for that to happen.

Part Two: How to fix iMovie Crash

So, what's the best method to fix the iMovie crashing problems during video importing or editing. How to Watch MKV movies on Samsung Gear VR-3D Movie Tips & Review

July 20, 2016

Still have doubt about how to convert MKV to Gear VR side-by-side MP4 for playing? Let’s see step by step procedure to convert MKV to Samsung Gear VR files and you will get a clear idea.

"MKV files won't work in Gear VR " or "Play MKV on Gear VR with no audio"?

That's because MKV is just a container format, holding video, audio, image or subtitle files in it. The video and audio files in different MKV files can be encoded with different codecs. For example, an MKV file with DTS audio can't be rendered on Gear VR.

To fix the problem, the effective and simple way is to change MKV to a fully compatible format with Gear VR. And today, in this article, i would like to show you two ways to solve it: convert your video files with AC3 audio to a Gear VR compatible video/audio or root your phone and add codecs for AC3. Both are simple, choose what you like.

Solution 1: Convert MKV with AC3 to Gear VR supported format

By this way, a video converter is absolutely needed. What I used is Brorsoft Video Converter. With it, you can fast convert MKV to Gear VR supported file type like MP4, MKV in .mp3, .aac audio. Best of all, this software allows you to convert MKV to 3D videos such as MKV Top-bottom 3D Video, MP4 Top-bottom 3D Video, MP4 Side-by-Side 3D video, which can be played on Gear VR perfectly. If you’re using a Mac, please turn to the Mac version here.

Step 2. Decide output format

Step 3. Specify video/audio parameters

Click Settings button to adjust video/audio parameters like video resolution, bitrate, audio codec, audio channel. According to my experience, anything over 720p does nothing but turn battery energy into heat, due to the screen resolution.

Step 4. Start encoding MKV to Gear VR

Click Convert button to start converting MKV to Samsung Gear VR friendly video. After the conversion, you can get the resulted videos by clicking the Open button.

Solution 2. Root your phone and add codecs for AC3

Following is the guide:
1. Put the file media_codecs.xml in the folder system/etc
2. Put the files libsac3d.so & libsomxac3d.so in the folder system/lib
3. Set permissions to all 3 files: 0644 (owner: root/root)
4. Reboot

Above are two solutions for Gear VR playing MKV movie with AC3 audio. You can try both of them to enable MKV with AC3 playable in Gear VR.
